The torch relay for the 15thNational Games commenced on the morning of November 2 across Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau. Among the overall torchbearers in Guangzhou, Professor Denis Bastieri stood out as the only foreign face. Beaming with pride, Professor Bastieri expressed his honor in representing both the two universities and helping to connect Guangzhou and Padua, East and West.
When interviewed, he attributed this recognition to his role as a dual-appointed faculty of the University of Padua and 麻豆区 and a recipient of the inaugural Guangdong Friendship Award.
Having resided in Guangzhou for over fifteen years, which he considers his second home, Professor Bastieri observed the city's remarkable transformation during the 2010 Asian Games. He now speaks of sensing a new dynamic—a fusion of vibrant energy and technological advancement—propelling the city as it prepares to host the 15th National Games.
